In the lab, upon reaching level 30, click on Shipyard. This is where you engage in research for PR (priority rarity) and DR (decisive rarity) ships. It's hard to get tier ratings for PR and DR ships, but they appear to all be at least A+ tier, and usually S or SS. This means they're valuable additions to your fleet, although different sources will prioritize different order. Regardless, you'll want to begin researching PR and DR ships as soon as you can.

The ships are grouped by level, PR1 through PR7. PR7 is new as of July, 2024. They require certain levels of Fleet Technology Points, with higher levels requiring higher levels of points. To review your current Fleet Tech Points, switch to the Fleet Technology tab under lab, and then click on Faction. If you want to understand where the numbers come from, click back to Fleet, then on the left, pick a faction. You'll see what goes into the points you have.

There are three ways to gain fleet tech points:

# Unlock Shipgirls in that faction.
# Max limit break Shipgirls in the faction.
# Get Shipgirls to level 120.

There are two ships that are considered immediate priority:

* Friedrich der Große - PR2
* Anchorage - PR4

You may not yet have the fleet tech for either of these. PR1 ships only require you have a certain number of ships of the corresponding faction.

Acquiring a Ship
Let's first explore the page. In the lower right is a button that is probably labeled PR1 for you. Clicking it gives you access to the six levels. I recommend you click on each, then click through each ship, just to get an overall feel for what's there. For instance, PR1 ships are:

* Ibuki - IJN Faction
* Izumo - IJN Faction
* Monarch - HMS Faction
* Neptune - HMS Faction
* Saint Louis - FFNF Faction
* Roon - KMS Faction

They may not be listed in this order.

Let's say you wish to start with Roon. If you click on her, you'll see you need 7 or more Iron Blood Vanguard Fleet ships in your Library. Hopefully, you have them. If you don't, you may wish to start researching another ship first, unless you're really close and can acquire the needed ships easily. Let's say you have the ships. You'll see a big, yellow Develop button. Click it.

You can only switch which ships you are developing every 24 hours. We recommend you pick one and stick to it until you have her.

At this point, you'll be presented with a tasks to perform. Most of them will be locked, and they automatically unlock over time. They'll tell you how long until they unlock, one-by-one. You have to fulfill each task, and then you'll have a Submit button to apply it. The first is probably called Combat Data Collection I. Later, there will be Combat Data Collection II.

I am currently working on Anchorage. She's almost done. For Anchorage, you must sortie and accumulate 1 million experience using Eagle Union Vanguard ships. That's not hard, it just takes time. In short, engage in battles, any battles that grant experience, but use a fleet with as many Eagle Union Faction ships in the vanguard (front line). You can come back to this page periodically and check your progress, although it only updates every 10,000 experience, so no instant gratification for you. Note that you will not receive credit for Combat Data Collection II until you have completed Combat Data Collection I, so be sure to check back now and then, and click Submit as soon as it's available.

Once you have hit Submit on all 8 tasks, your shiny new Shipgirl will appear in your dock. Congratulations!

Developing a Ship
Once you have a new PR or DR ship, you then need to develop her. That comes in two stages. In the Shipyard, navigate to your new Shipgirl. You will see over on the right side the DEV Level 1/30. You'll also see you can spend points to level her. Excellent. How do you get points?

You can have blueprints for that ship, or many of the earlier ships also have a catch-up feature, which lets you spend coins.

You get two free points per PR level every day. This will lead to an overall strategy, discussed below.

Every day, you'll want to pop into the Shipyard. Navigate to each PR level you've earned ships, and spend those two points plus any other blueprints you've acquired that day. The number of blueprints you have for each ship will show up on the bottom in the area where you click the Shipgirl when navigating to her.

You'll want to develop your PR and DR ships. Other people talk about "she becomes usable at dev level 20". Until she is dev level 30, plus you've done the next part of development leveling her, she won't be at her full power.

Once she reaches Dev Level 30, you then enter into the Fate Simulation phase. This is nearly identical, so I won't go into it. You'll want to run her Fate simulation to maximum.

Overall Shipyard Strategy
The PR and DR ships you acquire can assist in your fleet tech points, so it's good to plan accordingly. If you need points in a particular faction, that can guide earlier ships you may prioritize.

You get two free PR and two free DR improvements daily. Thus, you can go into the Shipyard, click on PR2, and for free, improve Seattle (PR) and Friedrich der Große (DR). After that, you must either use blueprints specific to that ship or spend cash.

When I first started, I picked randomly. That's a particularly poor choice. Eventually I did a search and found a priority list. That's better. But my method now is to look at my needs and use the community tier list.

For instance, ultimately you're going to want at least four top-tier CA/CB ships to serve as the lead vanguard ship in your fleets. In my personal fleet, the only Tier EX / 0 CA or CB ships I have is Anchorage. The rest of my CA ships are of lower tier -- generally much lower. I have Prinz Adalbert (Tier 1) and Roon µ. I have a few mid-level (50ish) tier 2 ships, but the first I have over 100 is Portland at Tier 3. So my next priority is to develop and level up a few CA ships. I'll level Roon µ. I'm actively working on Cheshire (Tier 0). The next ship I target will be from the Tier EX CA list: Ägir, Azure, Brest.

Acquiring Blueprints
You can acquire blueprints in a few ways. Some may drop during various missions and events -- I'm not sure. And you may be able to buy some at some of the ships -- also not sure. I haven't done so. There are three others you control:

The 2 daily blueprints per PR level -- you pick which ship to use them on

In the Research Academy, click on Research Focus. More info below

In the Shipyard, at the top, you can click on BP exchange.. More info below.

Research Focus and Catchup
Research Focus gives you blueprints as you complete Research. You can only collect so many of these free blueprints per level, and you should be mindful. When I first assigned my early focus, I didn't know what I was doing, and I selected randomly. Consult a priority list. https://samheart564.github.io/ECGC/research has a lot of very useful information. But note that you only get a maximum of 300 BPs at each PR level, so you'll want to focus carefully.

Note that there are actually two aspects here: Research Focus and Catchup. Catchup gives you blueprints specific to a particular ship. Research Focus focuses the research tasks you're given and what drops land from them. For acquiring PR and DR ships, it's really the catchup that matters.

BP Exchange
Along the way from events and missions, you'll acquire "General Blueprint - Series 4", 5, or 6. These blueprints can be traded for BPs specific to a specific research shipgirl by clicking BP Exchange in the upper right of the Shipyard. It is recommended you do NOT use the BPs for lower PR level ships, as you can level them using gold, and do not use Series 5 or 6 for PR4 and below. That's only advice, of course.

The shipgirl you're viewing when you hit PR Exchange controls which BPs you'll acquire. So click the Shipgirl, then click BP Exchange.

Gear Boxes come in tiers. The lowest two levels can be combined five-for-one into the next higher level. At the very beginning, you need whatever gear you can get, but very soon, you should combine the gear boxes up to purple. You cannot combine to get gold or rainbow boxes.

A Gear Box will contain exactly one piece of gear, with a chance of it being the current color (purple, for instance) or one level below (blue). Rainbow boxes always have one rainbow drop (I believe), but they aren't very common.

By Midgame
You can advance fairly far simply by equipping your Shipgirls with the purple and gold drops you get, and you don't need to be very mindful. But eventually, you'll want to be more mindful.

I use the Azur Lane Community Tier List to help me identify the gear I want. When you click on a Shipgirl, it'll give you a list of recommended gear in a sort of tier system. Gear that is considered equivalent will be stacked. You'll see it say "1 / 2" for the stack, and if you click on the second item in the stack, it will cycle through the entire stack for you. Double-clicking the top item in the stack will take you to the official wiki page for that drop

The best quality gear comes from these sources:

* The Core Data Shop
* Research
* The Gear Lab
* Special Event Drops

Core Data Shop
Core Data is provided when you complete Hard Mode stages, of which you can only do 3 per day. It's worth doing all 3 each day. Note that you get different types of retrofit blueprints based on the stage.
+
Stage
Retrofit Blueprint Type
X-1
Destroyer
X-2
Cruiser
X-3
Battleship
X-4
Carrier
For instance, hard maps 4-1 and 5-1 both drop destroyer retrofit blueprints. Thus, if you know which type you'll need for your next retrofit, you can target the correct stage.

Be mindful how you spend Core Data in the Core Data shop. They drop slowly.

Research
Research blueprints drop all over the place. In the Depot, you click on the Craft tab, and you're shown what you can make. Some blueprints only drop in certain places. For instance, all cruisers would like the Aux item Improved Hydraulic Rudder. This is a research-only drop: Acquired through Research (all series), Mirror Involution, Abyssal Refrain as a map drop from D3. In other words, if you want to farm these, you can, but you'll have to go to the War Archives, pick Mirror Involution, and run D-3 over and over and over. You need 25 per completed research. And, of course, you can only run 4 per day.

Some research drops, but rarely the top gear, come from all over the place. My current list of equipment I don't care to use but could create is very lengthy.

The Gear Lab
The Gear Lab is why you farm Operation Siren. This is a confusing page, but you can navigate it if you go to the Azur Lane Community Tier List. I've discussed this above. Pick a Shipgirl, hover over the recommended gear. Find one that says Gear Lab in the popup text. Double click it, and you'll learn more about it.

For instance, Friedrich der Große would like to use a particular DD / CL Main gun: Triple 152mm (BL 6" Mk XXV Prototype). The official Wiki will tell you a few very useful things. This is a Royal Navy gun. (You can use it on Iron Cross ships, though.) Knowing that, go back to the Gear Lab. Click on Royal Navy. Then click on CL MAIN GUNs. Scroll over, and you'll see the gold gun as a choice. Tap it, and you see it takes a variety of drops, including a particular purple gun you may or may not have.

At this point as I'm entering this information, it takes 72 Ultra High-Purity Metals. I have 10. It will be a while before I get another 62. They're not a common drop. It also needs 8 T2 Ordnance Testing Reports. I have 8, although I suspect I'll use them before I have the first drop in sufficient quantity. It also needs 4 SR Main Gun Design Plans. Once you have everything, you can click the big Change button, and you'll have the gear for Friedrich to equip.

Special Event Drops
These are the least reliable sources for drops, as you can only get the drop during the event with an exception: some of the drops are available from the War Archives. For this reason, when a special event is in progress, it's worth gaining the rewards, if you can. You never know when a particular drop will become highly valued or even part of the meta.

Girls that are hanging out in the Dorm gain morale much more quickly. They also gain free XP plus an XP bonus. So when I'm working on Main Campaign or Permanent Event content, I put the Shipgirls from my mob fleet into the dorm. However, if you have even a single Shipgirl in the dorm, she'll eat the snacks, and keeping up with their hearty appetites is a pain. So I forego the free XP at other times and tend to pull them out.

I believe the rate they eat the snacks does not vary based on how many Shipgirls are there. 1 or 6, they eat the same snacks. I haven't personally verified this.

Jpl:

Like many games of this nature, there are several currencies and resources you can spend. The one that is critical is gems. You are strongly discouraged from spending any gems until you read the basic information.

Gems
In the beginning, it feels like you will have ample gems for everything you want. But this is a gacha game, and they're luring you in. The game gives you a lot of gems at the beginning, but the flow slows down dramatically after a week or two. For this reason, unless you want to spend significant real world money to buy them, it is important to be mindful how you will spend gems.

You will need to spend gems on the following

* Expanding your Dorm. You will want to allow more than 2 visitors in your dorm, and it gets expensive.
* Expanding your Dock. You will need to expand the dock to hold all the unique Shipgirls you keep.
* Expanding your Tactical Training Room. This lets you have more students at a time.

All other uses of spending gems should come behind these three. For me, the next priority was:

* Buying Promise Rings so I could marry Shipgirls.

The problem for me was that I spent my gems on marrying several shipgirls early, and I didn't have gems for the main priorities. Unless you want to spend real life money to buy more gems, think three times before spending gems on anything else.

You can farm them -- there are YouTube videos about this. But it's slow and time-consuming. In short, there are Urgent Commissions that have the chance of rewarding gems. They are rare. You can be given an Urgent Commissions at the start or end of a fight (two chances). So if you run a lot of fights, you get Urgent Commissions, and some of them might reward gems. The drop rate is low. Some people recommend running low-level content with low-end ships to reduce the oil consumption. I did that early on, but once you clear Map 9, you can run in low-oil mode (see below), and I find that more useful, although perhaps it spends more oil.

Oil
If you've done the in-game tutorial, you know that you spend oil when your ships do battle, except in Operation Siren. Some zones have a small oil fee to enter the zone (usually 10 oil). But each fleet you battle in the zone will require additional oil, and the amount it costs depends upon your fleet. For the first few days you play, it will seem like you have all the oil you can handle, because you have a young fleet, and low level ships don't consume as much oil as higher level ships.

You can't avoid spending oil, but you can control how fast you spend it, and there are things you can do to farm more.

The Official Wiki has a good page on oil costs as well as zones with oil caps. Note that from 9-1 and up, once you've cleared the zone once, if you use clearing mode, then the cap will apply.

You acquire oil, slowly, in your Canteen. You will need to click on the oil barrel periodically to collect it, and you can only collect as much as is marked as your max.

There are also Missions and Commissions that give oil. I do them when they come up. There are also various ways to buy oil in the [[Supply Shop].

Gold
The primary source of gold is from the main campaign. Just engage in in the content, and you'll get small amounts of gold from each encounter. Conserving gold is less critical them gems or even oil.

However, you still want to be mindful. It's very easy to run through your gold. I prioritize:

* Building Ships, especially during events while trying to acquire the event limited ships
* Retrofits, top gear crafting, and the other steps that improve my ships' capabilities

I avoid:

* Research that costs gold, but see the related section.

These are general tips. Remember, I am writing them as a late-mid game player. At the time I draft this, I have only 6 ships to 125, 1 more to 120, but a bunch over 100.

The Basic Tips
*Make use of Tier Lists. I'll link a few below.
* I like to Favorite all EX and Tier 0 ships. (Pocket Gamer uses SS, S, A+, A, et cetera for the tier names.)
* When building fleets, equipping ships, enhancing, et cetera, the Favorites list can help prioritize
* Learn how to use the Gear Lab once available. This requires running Operation Siren (OpSi).
* Begin in the Shipyard when it's available (level 30). See the Research Guide in the Tier lists guidance.
* All Ultra Rare ships are Tier EX or 0, so Favorite them.
* PR ships above PR1 are all viable (as are some PR1). Favorite them when you get them, but understand they are viable once you've done further development on them. They tend to be Tier EX and 0, but some of the PR1 ships are Tier 1.
* Do the PVP / Exercises even from the very beginning. See reasoning below.
* As much as you can, when a new event is running, try to acquire the unique ships. Many times, these ships become part of the Meta. The event-limited ships Jintsuu Meta and Laffey II are both part of the PVP Meta. (Sadly, I don't have either.) A recent event also had two Ultra Rare ships, and Ultra Rare ships are always Tier EX or 0, so they're worth acquiring (and later leveling).
* Once you've been playing for a while and you have enough ships to work on, cut back on how much you build ships. Save them for Events, then go crazy. See the previous tip for why.
* Always be running all the Commissions you can (4 at a time, eventually).
* Understand how you can farm (sort of) gems.

Research Guide - ECGC: https://samheart564.github.io/ECGC/research -- A lot of information plus help prioritizing ships

Fleet Building
Take anything I say with a grain of salt. Early on, you built fleets based on what you had. Some of those ships may be your highest level and best equipped ships. However, it's worth referencing the tier lists and taking a short term productivity hit to level higher tier ships.

Ultimately, you're going to want several fleets of ships that are:

* Tier EX, 0, or 1
* Are max level
* Max retrofit when available
* Max development (for Research or Meta ships)
* Properly equipped (see the Community Tier List for suggestions)

You'll need all these fleets:

* A mob fleet for your current content
* A boss fleet for your current content
* A PVP / Exercise fleet
* For OpSi:
** A mob fleet
** 3 boss fleets for different types of bosses

There can be overlap in the ships you'll use. For your PVP / Exercise fleet, there are some unique choices. For instance, Juneau (Retrofit) is not a high-tier ship, but she has a place in many top PVP fleets. This is because she heals the other ships when she sinks. In regular content, you don't want any ships to sink, but in PVP, it's going to happen in most fights. Juneau is typically put into the off-tank position, which means she'll heal your main tank when she sinks.

Your OpSi fleets mean a total of 24 ships. These ships probably include all the ships in your main mob and boss fleets but may or may not include any of your PVP / Exercise ships. Furthermore, at very high maps (higher than I've gone), your main fleets may need swapping around based on the types of encounters. Some of the guides on the internet can help you.

In addition to the above, I also have leveling fleets for easier content. This is where I level new ships until they're big enough to move into the mob fleet.

Some Fleet Building Terms and basics
* Mob Fleet: The fleet that kills everything up to but not including the boss
* Boss Fleet: The fleet equipped to kill the boss
* Main Tank: leftmost vanguard ship, which takes the lead when your fleet is advancing. This ship takes the most damage, so you want your tackiest ship here
* Off Tank: rightmost vanguard ship, which takes the lead when your fleet retreats. This ship takes the second-most damage. This is where Juneau may go in a PVP fleet.
* Middle Vanguard: more protected than left and right, so put your squishy damage dealer here
* Flagship: Central position in the main fleet. The flagship position carries special abilities, so picking the right ship here matters. The general advice is to pick a good barrage battleship. Note that the flagship takes the most damage in your back line but receives 50 percent more experience to make up for it.
* The other two main line positions don't have a special name, and position here isn't critical. If you use a healer like Akashi or Vestal, this is where she goes.

Why PVP / Exercises?
The general advice is that you should run exercises (pvp) as early as you can, even though in the beginning you'll lose most of the fights. There are enough people who run very poor defense fleets, that you'll win some fights, though, so have heart.

There are advantages to exercises:

* There's a daily quest reward for running one
* You get free XP for your ships
* You gain merit points, which you're going to want. Even when you lose, you gain half points.

Jpl:

Operation Siren is a late-mid game to end game area. Beginners can ignore it. The lowest levels of opponents are mid-60s, and it scales up from there. When you first start OpSci, you will start with two fleets, but very quickly, that changes to four fleets -- and unless you're way overpowered, you're going to need them. Maps are larger than the main campaign maps, and you do not heal after you clear a map the way you do in the main campaign. See the section on healing.

Why Bother
Operation Siren is where you get many of the drops needed for the Gear Lab, and the Gear Lab is how you make the top gear you'll want for your ships.

Operation Siren is also how you advance your META ships. Many of the META ships aren't very good, but there are a few that become part of the, well, meta. For instances, the top PVP / Exercise fleets currently rely on Jintsuu Meta. And some of the Meta ships have amazing art. I really like Foch Meta, even though she's not rated very highly.

You also gain free XP for your ships. Not all encounters give XP, and the amount you get is low compared to what you get from main campaign content, but it doesn't consume oil or damage morale. So you can do a lot of OpSi events when you're low on oil.

There's a daily quest to complete one Operation Siren zone.

Healing
In OpSci, you do not heal after clearing a map. Instead, you have two other ways to heal:

* You can use Emergency Repair Packs you receive for completing goals
* While in a port city, you can heal your entire fleet, but it comes at a cost, and that cost is high if you haven't waited several hours.

For these reasons, you will want to bring fleets that can handle the content. In short, be overpowered. Some people will also tell you to put a repair ship in your fleets; others feel that is a waste. The author uses a healer in the mob fleet but not the boss fleets.

Explorable Zones
Explorable zones can have a corruption level, and the corruption level indicates the level of the mobs:
+
Corruption Level
Mob Level
Entry Cost (In Action Points)
Enemy Boss Fleets
1
62-68
5
2
2
72-78
10
2
3
82-88
15
2
4
92-98
20
3
5
102-108
30
3
6
112-118
40
3

About The Main Map
The main map is how you pick the next zone to visit. There are port cities and open ocean. In some of the zones, there will be special indicators:

A Red Exclamation Mark means you need to complete this zone for the main campaign. If you have completed the main campaign through chapter four, you may get this indicator in a port. This indicates there are daily missions available.

A Green Clipboard in the zone indicates there is a mission there for you.

* I like to Favorite all EX and Tier 0 ships. (Pocket Gamer uses SS, S, A+, A, et cetera for the tier names.)
* When building fleets, equipping ships, enhancing, et cetera, the Favorites list can help prioritize
* Learn how to use the Gear Lab once available
* Begin in the Shipyard when it's available (level 30). See the Research Guide in the Tier lists guidance.
* All Ultra Rare ships are Tier EX or 0, so Favorite them.
* PR ships above PR1 are all viable (as are some PR1). Favorite them when you get them, but understand they are viable once you've done further development on them. They tend to be Tier EX and 0, but some of the PR1 ships are Tier 1.
* Do the PVP / Exercises even from the very beginning. See reasoning below.

* Tier EX, 0, or 1
* Are max level
* Max retrofit when available
* Max development (for Research or Meta ships)
* Properly equipped (see the Community Tier List for suggestions)

You'll need all these fleets:

* A mob fleet for your current content
* A boss fleet for your current content
* A PVP / Exercise fleet
* For OpSi:

The ships are grouped by level, PR1 through PR6.

* Friedrich der Große - PR2
* Anchorage - PR4

* Ibuki - IJN Faction
* Izumo - IJN Faction
* Monarch - HMS Faction
* Neptune - HMS Faction
* Saint Louis - FFNF Faction
* Roon - KMS Faction

We recommend you research ship tier lists or do a Google query of "Azur Lane shipyard priority", or something along those lines. You'll probably find competing ship order choices.

Because of the two free blueprints daily per PR level, it's good if you open up as many PR levels as you can when they become available to you. For instance, don't do all of PR1 before doing any PR2. Because I wasn't aware of far too much, I actually did three PR1 ships first, although I don't remember if I had the Fleet Tech points to do a PR2 earlier, anyway, so I might not have really had a choice.

Your fleet consists of a main fleet (in back) and a vanguard fleet (in front). Aircraft carriers, battleships, battle cruisers, and some utility ships (repair / heal) are in back. Cruisers and destroyers are in front. The vanguard fleet will have rapid, lower-powered attacks. Battleships and Carriers pack a bigger punch, but they fire / launch aircraft far more slowly.

Location of where to put your ships matter.

Main Fleet
Most battleships fire their main barrage directly forward. This means you lose efficiency if they are placed at the top or bottom position. Thus, you should place your battleship in the center of the main fleet, with aircraft carriers in the top and bottom slots. I am not sure if this is also true of Battle Cruisers, but I believe so. You can also put your healer / repair ship in the top or bottom slot.

Vanguard Fleet
For the vanguard fleet, the most dangerous position is the bottom slot. This is because when advancing towards the enemy, this ship is in front, most likely to be hit. The second most dangerous position is the top slot, as this is exposed during a retreat from the enemy. Thus, place your tankiest ship in the bottom, the weakest in the middle.

Note that immediately before a battle, you can rearrange the location of your ships, so if your tank is getting beat up, move her to share the damage love.

Submarines
When I first started playing, I wondered when I would get submarines. I'm not sure what the answer is, but when you Build, if you build Special ships, you can get submarines. Your submarine fleet consists of three shipgirls. When they enter action, they remain while they have air and then retreat. Beyond that, see the Combat section for more details on your submarines.

Healers and Repair Ships
There are a small number of healer or repair ships. Akashi, Vestal, and Unicorn are three such ships. I am currently using Akashi. She is available through her quest line. Vestal and Unicorn are both drop ships, easily gotten once level appropriate.

Repair ships heal your fleet during battle using their special skills. For this reason, you'll want to make sure you Train your shipgirls' skills. Repair ships still have offensive capability, so you'll want to equip them with good gear.

At lower levels, repair ships are not critical. You can overcome the content just by having an overpowered fleet. However, at later points in the game, you can no longer outlevel the content. What you give up in total damage you more than make up for in a well leveled repair ship.
Illustrious
Not a healer, but provides shields, useful against difficult bosses
To sum it up, complete Akashi's Quest as early as you can and level her up. However, she isn't really needed until chapter 10 and beyond. For PvP, Juneau can dramatically improve your win rate, although I haven't tried her.

In Azur Lane, you acquire Shipgirls, which are a combination of a manga girl and a ship of war -- aircraft carriers, submarines, battleships, cruisers, and other such ships. You acquire Shipgirls, equip them, and level them through Combat and Missions. Along the way, you also enhance the shipgirls and the gear. Some shipgirls can also receive Retrofits.

You can also Wedding your Shipgirls. The tutorial does a good job explaining the process. Married shipgirls gain slight advantages and improve the aesthetics of the game.
* Then skim the contents of this page, just to be comfortable with the nature of the information available.
* Read in detail the #General Gameplay section. If you are already familiar with the game, there won't be any new information, and you can skim in seconds.
* From there, hit each page referenced from the #Most Critical Information section.
* #Deeper Dive covers advanced topics you won't need immediately.
* In the upper left, clicking the secretary's image next to my character name brings you to the Profile page. This is where you manage your secretaries.
* Along the bottom are buttons for the most common actions you'll want to explore, which we'll discuss shortly.

Jpl: Initial page

Some of your shipgirls can receive a retrofit. Retrofitting provides enhancements.

To retrofit a ship, you go to the Retrofit tab on the ship details page. Dock -> Click a Ship -> Retrofit. Only some ships have retrofits, but in the dock, you can filter on Retrofit Available.

Retrofits are done in order, with early retrofits enabling later ones. There will also be level and limit break requirements, and each retrofit will require various parts such as Battleship Plans, Gun Parts, et cetera.

This is the current state of Warspite, with three retrofits completed. I am not currently using this shipgirl in an important role, so she is not fully limit broke. If I click on the completed retrofits, I see:

* Hull Improvement: +70 HP
* Reload: +5 RLD
* Anti-Air Gun: +5% Anti-Air Efficiency

If I perform the retrofit:

* Anti-Air: +10 AA bonus
* Anti-Air Gun II: another 5% Anti-Air efficiency
* Hull Improvement II: another 70 HP
* Reload Enhancement II: another +5 RLD
* Firepower: FP +5
* Main Gun: Main Gun Efficiency +5%
* Modernization: I'll talk about this below
* Tactical Skill: Learn Skill: The Royal Navy Legend

I believe Modernization will change this Super Rare ship to Ultra Rare. And Tactical Learning adds the Locked skill to this ship.

Completing retrofits is worth it, but you use valuable resources, so retrofit your most important ships first.

Drops Required
The drop you'll need the most of are Ship Plans specific to the type of ship you're retrofitting:

* Destroyer Retrofit Plans: Hard mode x-1, chapter 3 and above
* Cruiser: Hard mode x-2
* Battleship: Hard mode x-3
* Carrier: Hard mode x-4

In addition they drop as T1 (grey), T2 (blue), T3 (gold). You can convert 6 T1 -> 1 T2, but you can't combine T2 to get T3. You'll also find them in some commissions, missions, some research, and the Medal Exchange Shop.

When you first start OpSci, you will start with two fleets, but very quickly, that changes to four fleets -- and unless you're way overpowered, you're going to need them. Maps are larger than the main campaign maps, and you do not heal after you clear a map the way you do in the main campaign. See the section on healing.
In OpSci, you do not heal after clearing a map. Instead, you have two other ways to heal:
* While in a port city, you can heal your entire fleet, but it comes at a cost, and that cost is high if you haven't waited several hours.
For these reasons, you will want to bring fleets that can handle the content. In short, be overpowered. Some people will also tell you to put a repair ship in your fleets; others feel that is a waste.

A Red Exclamation Mark means you need to complete this zone for the main campaign. If you have completed the main campaign through chapter four, you may get this indicator in a port. This indicates there are daily missions available.
A Green Clipboard in the zone indicates there is a mission there for you.

We recommend you read in this order:

* First, if you haven't read it: A Beginner's Guide to Spending Resources
* Then skim the contents of this page, just to be comfortable with the nature of the information available.
* Read in detail the General Gameplay section. If you are already familiar with the game, there won't be any new information, and you can skim in seconds.
* From there, hit each page referenced from the #Most Critical Information section.

General Gameplay
We'll start with a general review of the basics. Later, we'll do a deeper dive, hitting most of the pages not covered by this section.

* In the center area, on the left is an image of my current Secretary. You'll start with one secretary and add more.
* To the right of the secretary is a block with access to Special Events, your Formation, and the main Battle Screen.
* In the upper left, clicking the secretary's image next to my character name brings you to the Profile page. This is where you manage your secretaries.
* Along the bottom are buttons for the most common actions you'll want to explore, which we'll discuss shortly.
* Along the right are buttons for far less common places to go.
* Along ht stop, where it says Rookie, you can click another set of quests. Next is oil, then gold, and finally gems.
